Silverton Flywheels February 2007

STUFF:

Sounds like they had a pretty nice show up at the Gardens, a little low on cars count, but a nice show with lots of visitors. Things are just starting to happen around here. Car Shows, Swap Meets Hell, maybe a B-B-Q or two!

A group showed up at Bob Noble’s the other day to assist with dismantling his PU in preparation for new fenders, running boards, etc. and then PAINT!! Another small group dropped by Bob Wallaces place to pull out his big block Chev to get down to Red Heads for a freshening up and maybe a little warming over, Huh Bob?

Meeting Notes:

Larry gave a short report on upcoming runs, etc. Mainly the Garden Show, Salem Roadster Show and the Portland Roadster Show (PRS) in March. Moved on to some PRS notes. Bob Noble has chatted with some of his buds up north about doing security again and started a sign up sheet, so if you wish to help out make sure to make the next meeting or call Bob. Glen was on hand to report on the Joseph Run (June 8-9) and his B-B-Q (June 7th).

New business brought info about Gilbert’s mom losing her home and most of her belongs in an house fire recently. Motions were made to donate $200.00 from the Club and to add the Clubs share of the 50/50 for a total of $267.00.

During the officer’s meeting at Wes’s, Larry Brown brought up the idea of changing the by-laws to allow the wives of members to vote. Some discussion followed and Larry was gonna bring it up at the Jan meeting. This brought about multiple points of view at the regular meeting from most of the membership attending, both Pro and Con. A motion was made to change the wording and during the discussion it was decided to tabled the issue until the February meeting. After it was all said and done not many people were in support of changing the by-laws, most said leave it alone. Chuck Deguire was covering for Wes as he wished to speak his mind from the floor. I will not try to put word in Wes’s mouth, but to say the least he was upset that some people would not stand up and speak their minds. Too much going on to try to keep to write it all down.

Bruce Benz brought up having the Club get more Oregon Flags that will be flown over the Capital this Feb 14th for serviceman. Noble and Wes to check into it.

Bob McGowan won the 50/50.........

Wes’s Corner:

The NASCAR 2007 Season STARTS Feb 18 2007. The Silverton Wooden Nickel Pub and Eater, at 1610 Pine St. Silverton, will start off the 2007 season with Breakfast and The Daytona 500 race. Breakfast will be specials off the regular Menu starting around 9:00 AM. The Daytona 500 coverage starts around 9:00 AM. The Race starting around 10:30 AM I think. Come in for Breakfast with your friends and hang around for some racing, a few drinks and some story telling. Should be a fun day and maybe a GREAT DAY if FORD WINS.

Would like to say Thank You to all the members who had Vehicles at The Oregon Garden Car Show. And a big THANKS to everyone from The Club that helped with the show. I think for a small show it was VERRY good. Had around 38 vehicles. About half of them were from The Flywheels. Everyone entering The Show got a real nice jacket, there were no trophies. As of this writing I have not heard total gate count, but at 1 pm over 200 people were though the gate. Not too bad for what few ads they put out. Would like to thank the Silverton Appeal for their coverage. The Garden talked to some of the Club members about a summer car show in the garden. I am going to talk more with the Garden about this idea.

Need to be thinking about the Portland Roadster Show coming first of March. The Club needs to know by the February meeting who would like to help and who would like to show???? Feb. 15 2007 is meeting night starting around 7:30 at The Countryman 1405 Mill St. Silverton. Come early if you plan on eating. Also officers meeting Feb 12 at my shop, 404 S. 2nd St. Silverton.

Happy Valentine's Day Later Wes
