NOVEMBER 2006 NEWSLETTER
Okay, we are down to the wire on 2006 only a few more things to do before we all get excited about 2007! Well I am sure some of you are working up a sweat getting ready for 07' like changes to the ride, etc. Holiday season is upon us and thoughts of Turkey dinners, Christmas Trees and time with Family are the big highlights to come. And this Club has distinguished itself throughout the year all over the left side of the great US of A!! Oops, forgot about the crew that went south for awhile! But we’ll have a special edition for December to list all that this fine Club has accomplished this year!! WAY TO GO FLYWHEELS!!
Meeting Notes:
Okay Wes called the meeting to order and we had about 50 people in attendance. Had a long list of Club members and their family on the "under the weather" list that Wes reviewed with everyone. Larry had a few Flyers to talk about. A couple of the upcoming events are the Albany Swap meet on Nov. 18th and the Santa Cruise in Stayton on Dec 2nd. Plus one of his now famous jokes.
Old Business:
Wes Thanked everyone for their hard work at Macleay, Bob gave a nod to his parking crew and Rand gave a Big Thanks to the ladies that helped in registration. Larry Thanked everyone for all the help and the great prizes. Some discussion followed about designating an area for the Bent-8's.
Short discussion about 1st Friday and Friday Nights at the DQ. We need to start thinking about what we want to do next year with these and other cool deals. Maybe we should put some committees together to handle these, Huh Wes? Oh yeah, Wes has ordered Run Books and they should be here around the first of the year.
FOOD BANK TIME!! Bring food to the November meeting Some discussion about food barrels, etc but no decision.
New Business:
Lots of discussion about the Christmas Party and where to have it. Several motions were made, one to just let the officers decide. That Lost. More discussion and then a motion to have the party at the Elks, this was seconded and passed. Chuck Deguire had some basic info on dates and estimated costs. So the X-Mas party will be held at the Elks this year on Dec 9th. The Brotherhood might be able to make an appearance. Information on dinner selections, costs, seating arrangements and times will all be at the November meeting and if you miss the meeting, please make an effort to talk to Bob Noble or Chuck Deguire to get more info.
Keenan was approached by the Oregon Gardens to assist with arranging a Car Show on Feb 3rd 2007. This will be a special invite only show and if you wish to participate (if it is not too late) contact Keenan Foraker at 503-873-5777 or
DW is storing the race couch from the Homer Davenport Days and Wes said that we need to get a committee / group of people that wish to pursue this classic race to get involved early and maybe make this a better race for everyone.
Ken Gallager made motion and it was seconded to bring an unwrapped kids gift to the November meeting to used to give to a Kid Gift Program. Hopefully someone is checking into that for the Club.
SO REMEMBER TO BRING FOOD AND A GIFT TO THE MEETING!!!
Left Overs:
Wes thanked member Kevin Perdue for fixing the PA system which really did work pretty good. Next meeting will be on November 16th and an Officers Meeting on the 13th at Wes’s
THE GREAT WHITE NORTH
As most of you know I spend a lot of time in traffic going to work and coming home from work. I see a lot of cars every day, and in this area I see a lot of big buck cars. BMW's of every model are a every day thing, Mercedes, oh yeah I see a lot of them, Jag's lots of them too, even a Bentley or two, lots of big buck cars on the road every day.
The other day when I was setting in bumper to bumper traffic on the Narrows Bridge I was looking around at the other cars stuck there with me. A nice Jag XK-J roadster was on my right, I'm thinking "nice looking blond in that Jag, man if I could afford a Jag like that I could even afford a blond like that" Behind me was a old 65 Mustang HT, all original," must be a daily driver" I thought as it does need some work. In front of me 2 cars up was a well worn 442 Olds about a 66 model, it was then that I realized that I see a lot of cars over 40 years old on the road as daily drivers. That made me think about when ole Bill and I were pups in the 50's & 60's in Silverton. We would see a lot of cars that we would "kill for" now. There were a lot of cars from the 40's early 50's and there was even some 30's cars still on the road as daily drivers back then. One of my Aunt's drove a 1930 Model A coupe up until 1966 when she bought her self a "new" 1966 Falcon HT. I had my eye on a 1940 Ford 2 door that a old man drove around Silverton for years when he stopped driving it I lost touch of it. I always had dreams of just what I would do to that car when I got hold of it but that never happened. In every decade there are cars that become classics, and when I look around at the new cars of today I just have a hard time deciding how any of them will make it to classic status. The new cars of today just don't have that "SPECIAL" look that the cars of old had. I think it will be interesting to look back and see which cars, that are made to days will be classics by 2020. Chances are you will say "hey I had one of those, I just wished I had it today", sound familiar??? Next time you are setting in traffic look around at the new cars and try to guess which ones will make it to that classic status, it is a good way to pass the time. See you at the X-mas party, EDD
