The Club!!!

Meeting Notes:

Okay, one more time, Wes explains the history to the many visitors, really, we had several visitors and they ponied up with some money to join this outrageous group of gear heads! Discussed some of the members and their spouses that were under the weather and such. Larry gave his upcoming run/flyer report and the highlights are: Jordan Chicken Dinner 9/24, Canby Swap meet 10/1, Portland Collectors swap meet 10/14-15, Albany Swap meet 11/18, Stayton Santa Cruise 12/2.

Old business:

Tent crew needs to show up at Macleay around 3-4 PM, oops the tents didn’t show up until around 6! A Great crew was there so we were able to entertain ourselves for awhile. Work crews were to be similar to Homers. Going to try some games this year. Heavy on the try. Claudia and Patty to handle 50/50. Ken Gallager offered up his covered trailer to haul the beer signs! It worked out great, Thanks Ken.

Other BS:

The camp out is a go, Jerry even said we can have a campfire! We had a great time down in the canyon, more people should do this next year. Wes and Gilbert brought the flag back from the coast and it will be on display at the show and then at the MaCleay Inn for awhile. It looks like we will start up the Dairy Queen and possibly First Fridays again this next spring, more info later on both. We need to get out our wallets again and get ready for the Food Bank and other charitable organizations this coming month or so. And finally it looks like we might get that trailer re-decked in a week or two. Wes, Guy and others have been working with Gordy Jensen to make it happen.

One last thing, Guy Smith is raising money for Drug Awareness program in the schools, so the club anted up it half of the 50/50 and guess what, Guy won the 50/50 drawing so all of it will go to the program plus some added donations made after the meeting. That totaled $191.00 plus the 61.12 we garnered up at the MaCleay Show makes for a total of $252.12! The $61.12 collected at the Show was money coughed up to get a chance at cutting Guys curly locks, which were in bad need of assistance anyway. Well you’ll see by the accompanying picture that it was a good time!! After "The Boys" were through with their shearing, Maureen Schmidt cleaned up their mess so Guy could look as good as possible, which is a stretch when it come to Guy.

Run Notes:

Okay, here goes the numbers for the Show at MaCleay.

Registration: 183 vehicles

Raffle Take : $ 573.00

50/50 Take: $ 279.00

Auction: $ 1091.50

5 New Members (one at the Thursday meeting) That puts us over 90! What else? Hmmmm, I think everyone had a good time, at least I know I did. We tried a spark plug change contest, gave away 2 great looking home brewed Flywheels Type trophies (you would have to have seen them) but we probably won't do that one again. Only had 5-6 guys and 2 gals participate. Oh well, we tried.

It looked like the vendors that showed up had a good time, or at least they looked busy most of the time.

THE GREAT WHITE NORTH:

WOW!!! What a nice Summer we've had, one were you could really enjoy your hot rod, specialty if you own a roadster, or convertible. Sun, Sun, all Summer long, now that is what all of us topless guys love. Boy do we love things topless like, cars, beer, a bottle of the good Captain"s rum,...and... what is that other thing we like topless Glenn???... oh yeah GIRLS!!! (it is hell to get old.. the old memory go's).

Man it's so great to be able to go to a car show with top down on your car. Being able to drive all the way from home to and from a car show with the top down, now THAT'S!! living the perrrrrrfect life, IT don't get much better then that.

"Why would you want a convertible, when you live in Washington or Oregon with all the rain we get out here?" That is what I hear from all those uncool people out there. They have no clue what it is like to have the open sky above your head, wind in your hair (if you have hair) and that Sun, OH!! that Sun, on your back. It is also a big plus rubbing that Sun tan lotion on the girls who love to ride in your convertible, that is always a plus. You can always go cruising around at 2 A.M with the top down with two good looking women setting on the back of your convertible doing their version of the parade wave, but that is after you have had way to much of the Captain's rum. Although we would not know anything about that would we Brother Glenn?? I also tell them "It DOES have a top, and all I have to do is push a little switch on the dash and the top go's up and the rain don't get in, imagine that!!!"

After living through the wet Winter here, it is so great to have the Sun shining down on your car, especially after your car has sat in the garage all Winter. It just makes all the work you've done on your car last Winter seam well, worth while. Summer is when you see if that cool idea you tried last Winter really look good or not, and it is also when everyone else sees just what you've done. Funny how those ideas you had last Winter don't seam to look as good in real Sun light.

When people make fun of me owning a convertible in Oregon I always remember what that wise old sage Larry Brown once told me years a go, " Coupe's are for chickens" I think that about sums it up.

So just give me my convertible, the Summer Sun, ( keep the chickens in their coupes,) OH yeah, you can throw in some of the Captain's fine rum, some topless girls would be nice, ( I can hope can't I??) and I will be happy again until Winter comes back again.

That's all from " THE GREAT WHITE NORTH" for this month.

Wes's. Corner!!!!

Want Ads:

Thought I would see if any of your loyal Chevy people have any parts for a 67 RS Camaro. I need both front fenders and core support or somebody could buy the car. It is a 1967 RS Camaro Convertible 327, PG, needs work, not a driver, it is in pieces, but is going to be the 40th Anniversary of the Camaro next year so I'm sure somebody would like to enjoy the celebration in a Camaro ragtop. Any questions I can be reached at 541-589-0651. Kevin Breitbach, yupe Bill’s boy.

Good of the Order:

Heidi, Rick, Keegan and family totally appreciated the wicker Harley auction funds, $350.00! they were overwhelmed with the generoursity !!!
