The Silverton Flywheels
present the
2006 Club B-B-Q & July Newsletter
Stuff:Okay everyone, it is that time of the year again when we need to get ready to Party!! I am talking about the annual Club B-B-Q at Bob’s! That is coming up really really fast!! Like in a week or so, actually Saturday July 15th! This is a great way to show off your car, truck or whatever. The Club will again be supplying chicken, refreshments and basic condiments along with a great cooking crew, which includes Wes, Jeff & Jillbeer. All have numerous years of cooking experience under their belts. You might even see the biggest ice chest in town full of your favorite beverage, or at least our favorite’s.
Now comes the fun part, we do all the hard stuff. "We" includes some dedicated club members and their wives, who usually do all the really hard work, like figure out what to order and go buy it. BUT, your part in all this is to make, build, purchase or abscond with a great side dish. Potato Salad, Bean Salads, Casseroles, Chips & Dip, Cookies, Cake, etc. you bring it, we’ll probably eat it. Oh yeah, you probably should bring a plate or two with some type of eating utensil. We’ll have some paper plates and plastic forks for those who forget. Lawn chairs, canopies
(clearly marked with your name) are another good thing so you have a place to plant your butt during the usual "awards" assembly. This after dinner attraction is widely known and great fun. Usual players like Keenan, Larry, The Loyal Order of Suductionests and Bob will all be on hand to offer up some type of entertainment.Cooking starts early and we are planning on having chicken ready to eat around 1 PM, but you can sure show up before that and join in on the fun early!! Bob just doesn’t want people there before he gets up which is usually around 9-10 depending on how much fun he had the night before!
ONE Last thing about the BBQ, there will be a clean up party at Bob’s this Saturday the 8th to assist with moving some things and a little clean up work. Anytime around 9AM would be fine. Just show up at 141 Steelhammer Rd in Silverton. Call Bob at 873-6152 if you have any questions.
Meeting Stuff:
Wes called meeting to order, or at least tried too. There were close to 70 people there for the meeting and we all know how quiet we all can be. Wes discussed upcoming shows, etc.
Old Stuff:
We have decided to rebuild the flatbed trailer of Mike Kuhns this fall after he gets through using it. The 3rd Saturday at the Super Station has been placed on hold until later this fall after all the runs and car shows slow down a bit. Bob gave a short update on the Joseph run. 15 cars showed up there and most had been at Glens the day before for his annual BBQ. Glen & Claudia imported Gilbert and his brother Rudy to cook for the day. Speaking of Ole Jillbeer, he won both Trophies at Glen’s with his 54 F-100, Pretty Cool!!
Usual discussion of the upcoming shows more to come at the BBQ and the July meeting which will be on July 20th at the Countryman. Oh one last thing, Anyone interested in racing the Clubs’ Davenport? Well Ronny still has the couch and would like to get some pushers lined up. Make sure to ante up if you wish..
New Stuff:
We decided to have a club booth again at the Salem Swap meet on Fathers Day, a small group showed interest. The SACC "Hot Summer Nights" Car Show in Brooks is coming up and we’ll need to decide on a Circl of Honor choice from our Club for that show at the July meeting. The Club is Truly an International Club with the addition of 5 new members while the guys were on their trip to Tennessee and back. Wes signed up a guy from Australia, you know, Down Under!! His name is Brain Anderson, pretty cool, AYE.
Good Stuff:
Club had a great write-up in the Senior News, Wes will have copies at the BBQ. Now all he gets are phone calls from nursing homes wanting to see his hot rod. Hmmm, a great place to meet the ladies, right Wes?
This Friday Night at the Dairy Queen that Ole Bob McGowan came up with is starting to pan out. The last couple of weeks there have been upwards of 10-14 cars/trucks there and the drive by crowds seem to really love it. 6-9 PM on Friday nights, Stop on by.
We are again looking at Club Hats, hoping to get something for the BBQ, but have not had much time to pursue it lately so I’ll make sure to have some additional info at the BBQ for people to look at. But I did get more t-shirts ordered and will have a good supply at Bob’s for those that want some items. Even more Car Decals.
Keenan gave a report on the High School Scholarship awards held in Late May. Zac Ovendale won the $500.00 award and Derek Klopfenstein won the $250.00 one. Great Job!!
Pattie Wymore won the 50/50 drawing----------$100.00!!!! WOW!
Wes Here!!!!!
Damn another month has gone by. It just seems like the other day I wrote last months newsletter. Those months seem to just FLY when your are having FUN. And I must be having one HELL of a GOOD time cause half the year is already GONE. Well this months meeting will be July 20 2006 at The Countryman starting around 7:30 pm. Come on by and check out the new P.A. system. This new system was donated by a couple of genius club members. The Flywheels would like to say "THANKS". Got lots to work to do getting ready for the Homer Show. Hope to get return help to the work crews. ALSO! Keenan would like everyone to hang around after the show clean-up is done for some NEW club group pictures. The park will make for nice background pictures.
The Homer show date is Aug. 5 2006 and The Macleay Show is Sept 23 2006. "The Club" Went to Molalla, June 25, to the Jim Stutz Memorial Run at Safeway parking lot. "The Club" did GOOD. Around eight cars/trucks showed up and every one got a trophy of some kind. ALSO!! "The Club" won Club Participation Trophy. I would like to say SORRY! about the mix up on what time we were leaving to Molalla that morning. Will try to get the times RIGHT from now on. Sorry, Wes
I think we are having a work party at Bob Noble get yard ready for the Club B-B-Q on Sat. July 8 2006 any time after 9 am. I think Rand will have more info. some where in the newsletter. HAD a lot of fun going to and at the Oregon Mt. Cruise in Joseph Or. On the way most of us stopped at Alflafa Store for a cookout and Car Show. This year Gilbert, Rudy and cousin Melua did Mexican food which was outstanding. Bob Bullard was our bartender and doing a great job making Cocktails. Then there was the car show. Maybe around 25 cars/trucks. Two trophies were given, Glenn and Claudia's choice and People's Choice which BOTH went to Gilbert's 1954 Ford F-100. Way-to-Go Gilbert. Then it was off to Joseph Friday morning. Saturday was the Oregon Mt. Cruise which The Club members picked up more trophies. I don't remember who or how many by that time I had spent to much tine in The Stubborn Mule Saloon. I DO remember The Club got Runner-up Club Participation Trophy AGAIN and Claudia drove me home from the Mule after a night of dancing. COME ON club lets get enough pre-enters next year to get The Club Participation Trophy. Glen has 25 room saved for next year. See you next meeting July 20 2006. Later Wes
THE GREAT WHITE NORTH
When I started going to car shows in the 60's (when Ole Bill was a pup) Car shows were hard to find and there wasn't a show every weekend in those days. Now that is not the case today, and if you don't keep track of which shows are going on, on any given weekend you will miss some real good shows. I missed one that all true Ford lovers up here in Washington try NOT to miss last week. It was the all Ford picnic at the home of Microsoft and those geeks do have some FINE cars. I went last year and it was awesome, I have never seen so many rare Fords at any one place in all my life. Those Microsoft guys have a few dollars to spend on the cars they love, and boy did it show. I have never been to a show that most of the Cobras were "REAL" Cobras, made by Mr. Shelby his self. There was every kind of Ford that you had forgot that Ford made, well Brian has never forgotten ANY Ford ever made, but some of us have. You should try one of these shows, but, I think you will find the "OPEN" shows like the ones we have are hard to beat as you get to see a lot of "different" kinds of cars that are out there. Just look at the different kinds of cars our club members own, man is our membership diversified. Sometimes it is fun to go to a show with only the kinds of cars you have. You will find a lot of ideas at these shows, some are what NOT to do to your car and then there are what works on the type of car you have. This is a great place to get ideas to try on your car. Shows like these are more common now and are not to be missed. With my retirement coming on I just may find the time to go to some more of them, but that is years away so I will have to do more research to keep track of them.NEWS FROM THE BROTHERHOOD
I've been told that a certain Brother is in BIG trouble with the secret watchdog board of the order. I've been told, as of the first of the year, this brother has been on "DOUBLE SECRET PROBATION" and he has made some BIG mistakes lately. The Abbett said that he will have to take action at "THE BAR-B-Q AT BOB'S". You will just have to go to the Bar-B-Q to see just what is going on within the Brotherhood. I even heard that the hanging judge from the order might be there, I just hope that the Brothers will not be down to just two, we will just have wait and see. That’s all from 'THE GREAT WHITE NORTH" this month, EDD
