April 2006
Fly Time on Planet Silverton
Meeting Notes:
Okay, now this is getting out of hand, we had over 50 members, guests, etc. show up and that did not include some regulars that had something better to do last meeting night! Man, what a night!! Wes and Bob were overcome with Joy!! Or what ever her name was. Oops, sorry Bob, didn’t mean to let that slip.
Larry "PR DUDE" Brown gave a good report on upcoming events. There will be a better list later in the ‘letter . Also, Wes plans on having more Event Calendars at the meeting. Remember the Saturday get together at the Station is now on the 3rd Saturday.
PRS update. 640 vehicles, we had 16 cars in the show and 7 won trophies and the Club got "Outstanding Club Display Plaque" Pretty neat. Ole Buddy Al lost a radiator so he missed the show. Oh, the really cool posters that were around all the cars during the show, well we voted to auction them off at the Clubs own B-B-Q this July 15th at Bob Nobles place. Hell, this should be the 6th year?
We need someone or a group of bud’s to ante up to work on Goody Bags for the 2 shows. Dream up some ideas and bring to the next meeting about stuff to add to the goody bag. But we want it to be cool stuff, so as not to just be thrown in the back seat to be dumped later.
Okay, it seems the B-B-Q at Glens is back on the docket on the Thursday before the Joseph Run in June. The dates are June 8th at Glens for the B-B-Q and then off to the Mountains on June 9-10. Rooms are going fast and if you want to go you need to make sure to pre-register. The phone number for the Best Western in Enterprise(?) Is 541-426-2000. Any questions , etc. call Bob Noble or Wes Oster. Last but not least Terry Bonn won the 50/50>>>>> $77.00 !!!! WOW
Web Site Update:
Bob Noble supplied me with pictures of the Roadster show. They are now on the web site in two places. The pictures of our display are in the public area and the pictures of setting up the display are in the members only area. When testing the members only area I found it has a problem logging in. I will be working on that issue. Also for those that could not open the attachment for the Portland Auto Club History I sent out the other day, you can view it on the web site also. Homer and Macleay show flyers are now on the web site too. If anybody asks you about either show you can direct them to the web site. Suggestions are always welcome. Look for a shop/projects area coming soon. Regards Bob McGowan
THE GREAT WHITE NORTH
(This is my April First (April fools day) column so I hope you get a laugh.)
I was wanting in line the other day at the local Safeway store behind a blue haired old lady writing a check for her hair dye. While I was waiting I looked at and started reading some of those papers they always put next to the check out stand. You know the ones, "Bush is a Alien" " Jeff Gordon is Gay" things like that on the head lines, ( "I'm not sure that they really have to tell the truth, like you said" Bill.) So I started to think, now what if.....they had papers like that but with only stories in them about cars or car company's??? If they did Maybe the headlines would look something like this....
THE PRESIDENT OF G.M. HAS FINELY FIGURED IT OUT,
"I think I have finely figured out just what kind of cars the American people want and are willing to buy." "the good news is, it looks like the American people will buy with these cars year after year, the bad news is that these cars are..... Toyota's." Some more good news form G.M. "Buick sales jumped up by 50% last month after Bill bought his wagon, true we know it isn't a new Buick, but as bad as Buick sales are right now, but we will count it" said GM Pres. GM Pres. said, " We hope to have the new Camaro out in record time for any new GM product we have ever built, it will be out by Dec. 2020," but, "by then anyone who knew what a Camaro was will be in a retirement home."
FOMOCO LOOKS BACK TO THE FUTURE,
With the new Mustangs retro look selling so good the big man in the (FORD) Oval office thinks that the idea of going back to the past is the wave of the future. So today Mr.. Ford announced that from now on , "you can get any color you want on your new Ford as long as it is black". The cheer that came up from Bro. Wes was so loud he was heard in Mt. Angel at Franks bar. Mr, Ford said, "Well it worked for Henry, so who knows.?" "Maybe we will just cut back on some of the extras we put on our new Fords so then we can cut the cost of your new FORD".
CHRYSLER NOT TO BE OUT DONE
Chrysler Pres. I.M. Loser was not to be out done, he said, " we to can cut the costs on our new cars too." "we will offer cranks instead of starters, manual operated windshield wipers, maybe side curtains instead of side windows, we just want to be ahead of any new industry trend." Chrysler is also going to go back to the 50's & 60"s, to get the names for their new cars, like GM has done. "You can expect to see these exciting old names at your dealers soon". "Good old names like, "Belvedere", "Coronet", "Valiant", and that real hot rod from the 50's the "Cranbrook". the Chrysler Pres. said. We were told that Bill has the first new Cranbrook ordered, loaded with all the goodie options, like the fluid clutch option, the big flat head six, one barrel carb, and single exhaust, look out Doug.
That's about all from up here in "The Great White North" enjoy the April fools News Letter. Edd
P.S.
To all who care, the brotherhood is giving a Retirement parity (some might call it a roast) for Bro Bill at "The Home Place" on May 6 starting around 6:30 p.m & lasting until Bill walks out. So if you have a story, true or not, dirty or clean, about Bro. Bill join us for some fun, well it will be fun for us, maybe not so much fun for Bill. If you have some appropriate gift for Bill's retirement bring it, hell if it is NOT appropriate all the better bring it, you know I will. The room is limited so get there early. You are warned that it will be mostly Guys, and it will NOT be P.C. and it has a R- rating, (no one acting over 21 allowed) so if you are offended EZ better go to a different retirement party
Wes Here!!!!!!
Will start out with the important things first. April Club meeting will be April 20 2006 at, who would guess, The Countryman starting around 7:30 PM. Anyone wanting to eat before the meeting should show up around 6:30 PM. The Club is getting LOTS of flyers for spring show around the valley. We need to pick a monthly show to attend as a Club. And that will not be easy there are MANY to pick from. Also the Saturday morning get-to-gather at Silverton Super Service Station this month will be April 15 2006 starting around 10:00AM. YES in the Morning. ALSO don't forget some canned food for the food bank. They can always use more. Also there will be a officers meeting Monday night around 7:30 PM April 17 2006 at my place. Which is 404 S. 2nd St.
I have been kind of busy this year getting a lot of little thing fixed or changed on the "56" before Bob with his Red 55 F-100 head off on another trip to TN. for the F-100 Nationals. AGAIN! it will be in May at Knoxville TN. This year we will be celebrating the 50 year of the 1956 Ford F-100. Looking like a big show we are hearing a around 40 trucks in the tour from the west coast. Also the raffle prize this year will be a custom "56" F-100. Maybe will get lucky and win the truck I can't seem to win a 50/50 drawing at the meetings. Plus Lucky Glen and Edd are going with us driving MY "95" Lighting so now I have three chances winning the custom "56" F-100 the only real problem I see is WHO gets to drive it home. Also would like to welcome Doug Tuner back to town and The Flywheels. Reminder!!! Dues are due and still only $12.00 a year Wes

GOOD of the ORDER:
Well we have another category to consider for games at the cars shows this year. Pier Parking! Ole Bro Bill has joined the Land Yacht Club this past month. He joins Ole Al Dozler, the founding member of "I have the Biggest car in town" club with the addition of a 92 Buick Roadmaster wagon to his fleet of cool GM’s. He may even have it at the next meeting. He did pull up to the Super Service Station last month and tossed a rope out to tie the damn thing up to a power pole. His anchor must be in the shop.
Bob Noble is slammin along with his new shop. The electricians have been there this past week and he is anxiously waiting to start moving some of his cool yard art in really, really soon!!
Wes, Edd, Glen and Bob are working to get all their clothes packed and trucks tuned up, etc. etc. for their 4th trip to Tennessee this next month. It will be the first for Glen and Edd. But they pretty much know the ropes on these types of cruises/tours: eat, drink, sleep then do it again. No Problems, right?
There was a work party to assist Keenan a couple of Saturdays ago to get his 37 Chev PU ready for paint. They sanded, pulled a motor, etc.
BOB BULLARD wishes to THANK everyone for all the assistance with his Willy’s wagon at the PRS. Special Thanks to Glen, Jim & Claudia Green, Gary & Bobbie Beebe. People like this makes this CLUB GREAT
