The Flypaper circa 1961

Okay Now, lets get ready to go to Portlandia, or in other words, The Portland Roadster Show. Bob Noble and his gang of retired derelicts are up to their butts in speaker stands, sign hangings, etc. all in hopes of getting everything ready for the upcoming event, which by the way is just around the corner. And in other preparatory corners are the 17 members that are working diligently on getting their ride ready. Most everyone has a nice clean, painted car already to dust off and drive, tow or whatever up to Portland.

But not all are that lucky, take one long time Hot Rodder and close friend to all, Norm Brown. He is building his car for the show Right Now! Just a couple of weekends ago, we had a small sanding party to do the 1st sand job on all the parts of his soon to be unveiled Model A PU. This going to be one bad ride.

Just be prepared to get a call from Wes, Norm or myself for a last minute "Hey, we need to go help Norm do something" Okay on to regular Club Stuff.

Meeting Notes:

Had a great crowd last month (46), Bruce Benz even showed up from the coast, but he did bring Jack Rhyne and then he even brought along his brother/member Jim, Now that table was one to avoid. Guests included Guy Smith, Dan Butler, Walt Richards and new members from Macleay, Floyd and Karla Gregorich.

Larry’s stuff:

Portland Rod & Custom Show Feb 17-19, 2006

Albany Swap Meet Feb 25, 2006 ?

Portland Roadster Show Mar 1-5, 2006

Regular stuff:

Officer got together and recommend that we raise the entry fee for both shows to $10.00 with some of the money dedicated to go to assist with the Clubs efforts with local charities. This was overwhelmingly passed by the large crowd in attendance.

We decided to tell the Miller Bros. that the Club does want to use the Canyon for a camp out after the car show in September 2006. We’ll figure out the particulars later, but for now Wes will let them know. Right Wes?? We also talked about doing game/s at the car shows, more st the next meeting.

Ken Gallagher brought up the idea of having a car show amongst the members cars. Did not hear for sure if that would be at the clubs show or say at the B-B-Q??? Ken, what was it?

HEY, does anyone still have their car from the first Macleay show in 1986? Jerry Thomas still has his 57 he showed there. Anyone else??

NASCAR is coming soon, a Daytona breakfast is available at the Wooden Nickel on the 19th. Speaking of NASCAR, Ronnie Keppinger has several tickets for sale for the Nov 1-12 Phoenix race.

The Club’s B-B-Q will be on July 15th

Wes's Corner!!!!!! WELL!! How did the first month of a new year go for You??? Was just another busy month for me. BUT they all are, HELL, I'm retired. Rand's older bother, Old Bill ,is also retired as of the first of the year. So Bill and I spend lots of time at the Office on the corner of oak and First St. working on "Club" things Last month Bill and I came up with dates for "The Clubs" two shows: The Homer show will be Aug. 5 2006 and The Macleay show will be Sept 23 2006. They will be at the same locations as last year. Also we scheduled the Feb. meeting for Feb. 16 2006 at The Countryman starting around 7:30 pm. We are also working on a trip in July, to Bill's other home in Seattle, for the NHRA drag race around the 23-24 of July we think. Will have THE RIGHT date next month. We also have set up a place for "the Club" members to watch The Dayton 500 on Sunday Feb. 19 at The Wooden Nickel on Pine St Silverton. They will be severing breakfast starting around 9AM We also have a officer's meeting set for Feb.13, 2006 starting around 7:30 pm at my shop on 2nd St. And you all thought us retired people have nothing to do all day. BUT! now you know different it just WORK-WORK-WORK, right Old Bill. Turner just called, by the time I get done talking to him it will be TOO late to write any more. Later Wes!!!!!!

THE GREAT WHITE NORTH

I TOOK THIS FROM "THE CULVER PRAIRIE DOG GAZETTE" NEWSPAPER

CULVER IS HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE:

"Turner has sold out, he will be out of town by march" this reporter was told that the sleepy little town of Silverton will be his next, and final stop. Do the residents of that little town know what they are in for?? This reporter went to a bar in Silverton to talk to some of it's more famous residents. Since Mr. Turner lived in Silverton for over 40 years he is well known by some of Silvertons older citizens. First I ask Mr. Wes Oster, the world known president of the Flywheels Car Club, about Mr. Turner coming back to his town of Silverton. He told me." I would think there will be a lot of people who don't like Fords that would have liked for Culver to have locked him up, this will not good news for them". Next I talked to old Bill, he said "I'm looking at a place east of alfalfa, way east" "it is a good thing us GM guys have big John McClaskey to protect us". Big Bob Noble was thrilled to have another Ford man to hang out with, "he is my kind of man". All Rand would say was "bring him on". Al Dozler said, "oh sure now I have Turner after my " horny goat weed man of the year" award next year, having to compete with Bob last year was tough enough ".

So there you have it, all I can say is, "will the town of Silverton be ready for Turner"? "Will Bill really move east, after all Glenn lives out in the great dry east, and he is a real Ford man'? Will Rand eat his words of "bring him on"? Will there be another brother added to the brotherhood???? only time will tell!!! All I can say the club/town will never be the same, it just got funner!!!! Now to all of you who don't know my old friend Doug Turner I will fill you in. He is a founding member of the Flywheels, helped start the Club back in 1961 with Wes and me. he is the first Flywheel member caught drag racing on the street back in `1961 he is a big (or bigger, I know that is hard to believe ) Ford man then your pres Wes is. He has had a lot of cool cars over the years from flathead Fords, to hopped up y-blocks, a 427 64 ford and I can proudly say he has been a dear friend of mine for over 50 years.

From "THE GREAT WHITE NORTH" see you at the Portland roaster show.........EDD

Good of the Order:Alan Schneider got 3rd place in 4 Wheeler Magazine "Real Truck Club Challenge" Rock crawling obstacle climbing competition back east a few months ago. His rig is even on their 2006 calendar.

Larry Brown gave Al Dozler a nice Loon and Poem to celebrate his birthday.

Bruce and Patty Benz are having a Super Bowl and Thank God the Holidays are over Party over at their Bar in Glen Eden.

Bob has a SHOP!!!!

Now that Bob has a shop, the Club might use it to rebuild a flat bed trailer for Mike Kohl, he lets us use one of his large tents at Macleay.
