September Flypaper
MaCleay 2005 !!
Okay, here we go again! We are just days away from the Clubs BIGGEST function each year! Of course I mean the MaCleay Car Show. BIG you ask. Well, we have had over 225 cars at this show in prior years (with room to spare) so we do have the potential to have another BIG show. AND, the Club members can bring their cool car, hot rod or trucks to this show and park in a special Club Car area so we can show off our cool iron.
Wes is already chasing tents for the BIG day and the trophy’s are made and sitting in his garage. Jan & Keenan have already chosen a design for the dash plaques. Bob is getting ready to give a BIG pep talk to his parking buddies. Larry is all over the BIG Raffle event for this year. The Gals have been in training for the upcoming BIG 50/50 raffle.
Even the Miller Boys have joined in on the BIG part of this very fun day! They have decided to open early for breakfast. 7:00 AM (or so) is a very good time to eat. So Wes and the gang will make a decision on time to meet for set-up, etc. at the next meeting this coming Thursday the 15th.
BUT!, we need beer signs, etc. for the Jon Dunn Memorial Scholarship Auction. Please spend a few hours, minutes and stop at one of your local haunts and see if they have a beer sign, beer mirror, etc. that they could donate for the auction.
Okay, enough hype, back to business. The Club has been having a ton of fun these past few weeks at the local car shows. Below are some reports that members have forwarded to me for the "letter.
Salem Auto Club Council had a good show "Hot Summer Nights" at Brooks on September 4. We had 8 flys there. Jerry Thomas represented us in the Circle of Honor and got a nice jacket. Bob Noble, Wes Oster, Ken & Carolyn Gallagher with two cars and three grandsons, and Larry Brown toured over Sunday morning. Bob Bullard, Jerry Thomas, and Dan Gilliam representing the Chrysler club in the Circle of Honor were already there. The threatened rain didn't materialize so the weather was perfect. Bob Noble won second place for four doors/wagons and Bob Bullard won first place for 4X4 vehicles.
Wes's Corner!!!!!
Where has this Summer gone????? Macleary's Show is almost up on us. Have hardly got rested up from the Homer Show. NEED raffle prizes for the Macleay show. The raffle is one place The Club makes money, plus the 50/50 raffle. So check with the business you trade with and see if they would like to donate a raffle prize. It can be about anything every little bit helps. Also check out some of the raffle prizes you have won at other shows I'm sure there is something there you can live without.
MACLEAY SHOW is Sept. 24 2005 gates will open around 8 AM.
CLUB members should start showing up around 7:30 AM. Parking Crew maybe a little sooner. ALSO "NEED" any beer signs you may have collecting dust in the shop for the BEER SIGN auction ALSO remember the Sept. meeting is the 15 of Sept. at The Countryman starting around 7:30 PM. Come early if you plan on eating.
Would like to CONGRATULATE ALL the trophy winners over the last four week of Car Shows. Will not even try to list names cause I am sure I would forget someone. I'm sure if you add them all up it would be around twenty. Noble won TWO with his New Four Door "57" Ford Wagon. I'm not sure Bob but I think it only has two doors the last time I looked. HELL I even won a first place at the ALL FORD show at Woodburn Drag Strip. Jerry Thomas and his "57" Chevy represented The Club in the "Circle of Honor" . In the circle were over forty cars one from every club in the Salem Auto Club Council. Jerry and the other entry’s all got a real nice jacket from the council.

Mark and I are pleased that so many people from our club won trophy's. Since we know so many people, Mark and I disqualified ourselves from judging any category that we knew a Flywheel or anybody we knew was entered in. Please send our thanks to the club for their participation in our show. See you at the meeting! Mark and Darlene Link
A Moment of Silence
Some of you might not know but Member Arnie Marcoe lost his brother recently and some of the Club members knew about it and attended the funeral and represented the club in morning with him. Arnie passes on his thoughts to the Club here:
I'd like to thank the club members for their kind thoughts and sympathy that has been extended me. It’s never easy to lose someone close and even though it was not unexpected it is still a shock. I would also mention the fact that brothers are found in many places and the "Flywheels" certainly brings this fact home. I have truly enjoyed the club and hope to be a part of it for a long time to come. thanks again, Arnie"
Want Ads:
Hey all you Mopar lovers, etc. A friend of mine at work is looking for a 360 Mopar to put in his 65 Cuda he is working on. Just give me a call or drop an e-mail to me if you have or know of one. Preferably, one that is in good running condition.
Good of the Order:
I have the Club shirts that everyone ordered. I will have them at the September meeting and also at the MaCleay Show. Get them before the MaCleay Show, you might need the sweatshirts in the cool late September mornings we have out there now and again!!
Oh yeah, I want to thank everyone for offering up there cherry picker for me to borrow for awhile to put a new engine in my El Camino. Really a cool deal when soo many people ante up with assistance.
This is what Wes is talking about when he says We Are The Club!! Rand
