AUGUST FLYPAPER 2004
"WE DID IT" and WOW Did we ever!! 139(?) Cars-Trucks-Etc , $554.00 worth 50/50 tickets, a Poker Walk, a record number of Trophies, raffle prizes up the kazoo and the soon to be famous Sue & Tano’s B-B-Q for Club Members at their house!! Okay, Now this is the way to have a Car Show. Want to Thank everyone who showed up and assisted with this years Homers Car Show, those that stayed up at the old Service Station display and of course, Sue & Tano for some Great Food!!
Keenan & Bob did their usual job of handing out trophies while a packed tent offered up encouraging banter to keep thing on the light side. Had several trophy sponsors drop by and made their choices in person!! This was pretty cool and greatly assisted Keenan and his group of hand picked assistants in making those tough decisions amongst the park filled field of cars. Oh, That’s right, we filled up the pool parking lot too. Now that was a task for Bob and his own group of dedicated parking patrol fanatics. Larry had his usual table full of great raffle prizes and even had to bring in help to assist with the none stop task of "giving stuff" away. He even had a grand prize of an engine stand!!!
Something new this year was a Poker Walk put together by Jack Rhyne and from what I heard a ton of help from his wife Sharon. They lined up 6 business to host the walk and I think I heard someone say we had close to 50 participants take part in it. Then we gave away $ 150.00 bucks to 3 winning hands!
The registration table was fairly busy from the get/go. Rick, Connie, Bob McGowan, Gary Beebe, a bunch of others and myself signed in those 139 cars. The big difference this year from other years, was how soon we had packs of cars arrive. We have always had several car show up early, but this was Damn Early! But, we handled it in the traditional Flywheel fashion, organized chaos. What can you say.
Another new attraction this year was the use of the Old Geno’s Shell service station next to the Hartman building for displaying Club Cars and offering information about the Car Show, Homer Days and just about anything else. That was a really cool deal this year, but we’ll have to see what happens for next year (Heard that the station was sold this past week, so you never know) Oh Okay, I’ll get back to the regularly sponsored editorials, etc.
MEETING NOTES:
Had our usual opening statements by Prez. Wes and introductions of guest speakers for the night Roger Truax and Bob Symon’s. They gave the Club a good run down on the up coming Albany Traffic Jam and information about antique/specialty car insurance. More on the Jam later in the letter. Basic stuff about the Homer Show was discussed and seeing how that is past I will skip a lot of that. The Albany Traffic Jam was voted on to be the monthly Club outing.
Prez’s Corner:
Prez. Here!! Boy!! these newsletter sure seem the come around fast. I think Rand is doing two a month. It seem like it anyway. If anyone out there would like to add something to the newsletter it would be more them WELCOME.
Don't know if Rand is putting the note he sent me about The Homer Show. If he dose it said it all about the show. About all I got to say "GREAT JOB EVERYONE". Another BIG turn out around 140 and we parked them all within the park area. The pool parking lot works real good for cars that wanted to be in the parade they could get out and back without much problem. Will have to remember next year to send a crew to the pool parking lot late Friday night and block it off. The Club display at the old Shell station was great. Heard a lot of good feed-back about the display. It may of been a one year thing if the station sells. Would like to sat "THANK YOU" to Terry Caster from Caster Real Estate for making it happen. "THANKS" again to The Silverton Flywheels Club for making it happen. We are "The Club".
Meeting night Aug, 19 2004 at The Countryman starting around 7:30 p.m. This month we will have Chief Lewis as our guest speaker. He will be talking about two of the new traffic laws that came about the first of July 2004. School zones and crosswalks. Should be a must attend meeting. Countryman address 1404 Mill Street. Phone no. 503-873-1333 Hope to see you all Thru. night Aug. 19.

Chuckle of the Day:
Q. Do you know why a Ford needs two parachutes when it goes down the drag strip?
A. One chute to stop the car and the second to collect all the loose parts from the run.
Sent to Rand by an anonymous Ford lover??? Really!!!
