The Flypaper, August 2003

Hey, we just had a great time at the Club’s B-B-Q and some of you missed it!! Boy was it fun! Jeff, Wes & Gilbert cooked up a great Chicken Dinner. We tried out a new set of B-B-Q grills on the club B-B-Q pit. Worked great!!  After eating and relaxing a bit, Keenan started out the afternoons Fun. He handed out numerous awards and held his usual trivia contest.

Wes handed out his "Outstanding Member Award" to Bob Bullard for his great participation with the club during his short time as a member.

Rand & Glenn had some fun roasting Bro. Bill for his 60th birthday with some ,,,,,,,unusual presents, etc. Edd Oster was really missed for this roast, as he and Bill have done a number of things together during there 50 + years as buddies, But I will let Edd speak later in this newsletter.

Bob Bullard Here

I would like to thank President Wes and the Silverton Flywheels for awarding me the Outstanding Member for the year plaque. It is especially rewarding to receive the plaques knowing that there are so many other members that are equally if not more deserving. A few names that quickly come to mind are: Keenan & Jan Foraker, Bob Noble, Rand Breitbach, Larry & Cordie and Glenn & Claudia Green just to name a few of the many deserving members.  Our strong active members and our many programs are what make the Flywheels a growing & respected Car Club. Bob Bullard

Meeting stuff

35 members present at July meeting! (Pretty cool) Wes talked about the Homer Show. The Macleay show is our next big event. Remember the camp out afterwards at the Miller Bro. Ranch.

Larry read the response letter from Sen. Beyer with regards to the Clubs stand on funding the High School Auto Shop program and other School programs. We have been receiving a handful of Club awards lately and it looks like we need a place to store them besides behind Wes’s seat in his truck. So Wes is going to talk to the Countryman about a display case.

Speaking of the Countryman, next meeting will be on Thursday August 21 at 7:30 PM. We will have all sorts of info for you by then. But make sure to check the dates and times for Shows/Runs that happen early in the month prior to the meeting.

The Great White North speaks again(?)

BILL, I'm sorry I didn't make it to Bob's BAR-B-Q but, I just wouldn't THINK of roasting someone like you in front of all those people.......ah......Ok...... I just couldn't get off work. You know me, I'm just NOT the kind of a guy who would tell stories that would of embarrassed you.........ah.... ...OK......well, maybe I was AFRAID of all the stories that YOU could tell about me. Anyway, my Old Friend (and I do mean OLD) "Here is to all of those years that we've been friends", the years we went to different High Schools together, the years when you use to come over to my house to eat chicken, shit, we have been through a lot together. The stories that I just can't tell about you, ( well not until the statue of limitations runs out any way ) would make a good movie, unfortunately for you NOT a porn movie, but a damned funny one.
The " glory days" stories that we tell when we are on R&R are mostly true, and I would like to think that we are only getting better at having a good time, so the new "glory days" stories will be even better.

Now that you have reached your twilight years, here are some things that will help you get along better and some pluses's too. Just think you can now have the senior meal, it is now OK to drive a Buick with all the other old farts, now you can forget the things that you realy didn't want to remember anyway, and now most of the girls will think you are harmless, just like they did before. You can turn to Bro. John and take his class on picking up older women, remember they DO have $$$, and at your age the women out number the men. Keep a eye on Wes (the Pres.) but, don't try to keep up with him, yes, as he get's older he WILL slow down some too, but, it will take some years yet before you can ever hope to keep up with him so don't try just yet.
Old buddy, I hope this has helped you get ready for your golden years, just remember, "you do see a lot of old drunks, but, you never see many old teetotalers" so don't give up the R&R. So, until I get to town to lift a few, (few hell) with you, congratulations on not getting shot by now, and remember to leave her bedroom window open in case the old man comes home early, (Chapter one of John's book ) and don't......ah.......Oh hell I've forgot already, it's hell getting old,
To my best friend from Your OLD Friend, "It ant over yet, there's still rum in the bottle, and we threw the cap away anyway, so have another !!!"
